Think of me as your friendly guide, helping you create meals that nourish your body, delight your taste buds, and care for our planet. Treat this newsletter like a personal larder—always stocked with something you’ll love.

The UK is a collection of islands, but as island nations, in many parts we are disconnected from what fish and seafood is actually found off our shores. This isn’t helped by supermarkets - 60% of the fish we buy from there is imported. This week I talk about how we can eat fish more sustainably; from learning about what’s seasonal (yes, this matters for fish too!) to understanding labels I take a deep-dive into what’s beneath the surface of the fish on our plates.

Can Fish Ever Be Sustainable? A Practical Guide to Eating Better for our Oceans

One of the questions I am most asked - answered.

The Cornish coast, where bass, pollock, plaice and mackerel are native.

When it comes to eating fish, the waters can feel murky. Should we be eating fish at all? Is wild-caught always better than farmed? And what about those "sustainable" labels — do they actually mean anything? It’s a lot to untangle, and honestly, it can be tempting to throw in the towel and avoid fish altogether.

In my opinion, it’s not all or nothing. With a little know-how, you can enjoy seafood in a way that’s gentler on the planet. By making small, thoughtful choices like choosing different species, eating with the seasons, and wasting less, we can make a huge difference in how we support our waters.

Fish pie with Edamame & Parsley Mash

So good I didn’t get a chance to take a photo!

Pre-game fish pie.

This is the sort of dish that when it hits the table you need to be quick. So quick that in this case I didn’t get a photo before it was demolished - but trust me it’s worth taking the risk on this veg heavy twist on your trad fish pie.
